The Relationship Between Diabetic Ulcers And Anxiety
Discussion 1 JG
What is the strength of the relationship between diabetic ulcers and anxiety and depression in the internal medicine clinic setting.
Psychological tool: The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS).
The researcher will measure anxiety and depression implementing the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale is one of the most popular emotional distress self-report questionnaires in healthcare. In fact, it is frequently used in oncology and various healthcare settings. The questionnaire was introduced and designed to screen emotional suffering of patients in non-psychiatric settings. This was done by detecting the two most frequent distress components including anxiety and depression. One study was conducted to assess the validity of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale for depression and anxiety screening in primary care patients in Colombia. The criterion validity study was conducted using 243 patients in Columbia. The study applied Cronbach’s alpha,McDonald’s omega and factor structure through confirmatory factor analysis.

The results demonstrated that Cronbach’s α was 0.85 and 0.82 for McDonalds’. Confirmatory factor analysis supported a two-factor solution demonstrating a satisfactory fit. The results suggest the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale is a valid and reliable instrument that can be used for anxiety and depression screening for patients in primary care (Annunziata et al., 2019)The Relationship Between Diabetic Ulcers And Anxiety .
Physiological tool: The Braden Scale.
The researcher will measure pressure ulcers implementing the Braden Risk Scale. The Braden Risk Scale primarily consists of several items including sensory perception, moisture, activity, mobility, nutrition and friction/shear forces. According to experts, this scale has been shown to demonstrate a higher predictive validity than nursing judgment on its own, which is based on nursing experience (Jansen et al., 2020). One study was conducted to test the reliability and validity of this scale. This study aimed to analyze the Braden Scale scores and sub-scores assessed in Portuguese patients. The first 10 and the last assessments of the scale scores were obtained from electronic health record database. TheWilcoxon test was implements to compare the first and the last assessment of Braden scale score and sub-scales results. The study concluded a p-value <0·05 indicated statistical significance (Jansen et al., 2020)The Relationship Between Diabetic Ulcers And Anxiety .

Discussion 2 RG
In my study, I am seeking to assess whether the use of virtual reality simulation training reduces levels of pre-shift anxiety in pediatric emergency department nurses.
I will plan to measure anxiety through the use of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. This tool uses two different Likert scales consisting of 20 questions each to identify changes in anxiety levels in subjects older than fourteen years old (Doğru et al., 2021). Moreover, the State Anxiety Inventory aims to calculate the immediate change in stress response, whereas the Trait Anxiety Inventory’s goal is to assess the levels of stress that is normal for the subject (Doğru et al., 2021). This tool possesses a high reliability coefficient of .83 to .87 and test-test reliability coefficient of between .71-.86 with the use of the Trait Anxiety Inventory (Doğru et al., 2021). In addition, the reliability coefficient of the State Anxiety Inventory past is .94 to .96 with a test-test reliability of somewhere between .26 and .68 (Doğru et al., 2021)The Relationship Between Diabetic Ulcers And Anxiety .
For the physiologic measurement tool, I plan to use the salivary cortisol EIA kits (catalogue number 1067100; Diagnostic Systems Laboratory, Inc., Webster, TX) (Board & Dai, 2011). This method involves swabbing the inside of the mouth and tongue for two minutes with a provided cotton swab and sending the sample off to be tested for cortisol levels (Board & Dai, 2011). I was unable to find a specific reliability/validity score for this specific test, but I was able to find the intra-assay precision coefficient of variation varied from 2.8% to 7.2% (Board & Dai, 2011).
In summary, these measurement tools appear to be reliable indicators of the variables in which I am seeking to examine in my study. The anxiety scale being used has been shown to be a reliable and consistent way to measure my variable. Furthermore, the saliva cortisol tool would provide a simple, efficient, and reliable way to detect each subjects’ level in the study The Relationship Between Diabetic Ulcers And Anxiety
