There is a growing need to use technology to provide high-quality, low-cost care. The use of various software to facilitate various healthcare operations raises the importance of using the software development life cycle (SDLC), which allows developers to analyze requirements. Planning, systems analysis and requirements, systems design, development, integration and testing, implementation, and operations and maintenance are the seven steps in the SDLC (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2021). The scope of the problem and potential solutions are determined in the first phase of planning, while the functional requirements of the project and end-user needs are analyzed in the second phase (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2021). The third phase includes a detailed description of the specifications, features, and operations required to meet the functional requirements of the proposed system, and the fourth phase, development, is where the real work begins. Following system integration and testing, the project is put into production in the sixth phase, implementation, and end users fine-tune the system, boost its performance, and add new capabilities in the final phase. Approaches to SDLC

            SDLC has three recognized approaches: linear, iterative, and component-based. The linear approach divides specific activities into separate entities. Each phase is completed independently, and the development moves on to the next phase (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2021). The iterative approach interweaves specification, development, and validation activities and is repeatedly refined with customers and input to produce a system that meets the needs of end users (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2021). Finally, the component-based approach assumes that system components already exist. Rather than creating these components from scratch, this system integrates them.

Interoperability and its Importance in addressing and meeting the challenges of implementing the HITECH Act in health care

There are numerous government-certified Electronic Health Records (EHR) products in the United States, each with its clinical terminologies, specifications, and functional capabilities. As a result, interoperability, defined as the ability to exchange and use data between two EHR (Reegu et al., 2021), may be difficult. HITECH’s goals were to achieve interoperability across all health sectors; however, the task has proven difficult. Heavy technological advancements and funding sources are tried and true strategies for limiting the challenges. Moving forward, increased awareness of the EHR and its role in increasing interoperability will save people from the shackles of quaint methods of practice.
