Course Catalog Description: This course focuses on the care of adult patients with one primary comorbidity that requires medical and / or surgical intervention. Emphasis is placed on the care of patient and their families. Concepts of patient-centered care, communication, professionalism, cultural sensitivity, safe practice, teamwork and collaboration and informatics are integrated throughout the course. More complex health assessment and nursing skills are presented and students practice and demonstrate these skills in the laboratory and clinical settings. Course Objectives and student learning outcomes that will be assessed in this course are stated under the objectives and outcome headings of this syllabus.
All nursing courses required for the nursing program will be evaluated based on satisfactory completion of class, lab and clinical competencies. The classroom competency standard requirement is a minimum of 80%. Students are required to achieve a satisfactory evaluation in the lab and clinical components of each nursing course. Numerical grades below 80% (C) in the nursing courses and/or unsatisfactory lab and/or clinical evaluation for the semester are considered unsatisfactory attainment of course competencies.
There are two clinical evaluations during the semester, one at mid-term and one at the end of the course. A student who is not successful in clinical practice will receive a course grade of “F” regardless of other course work.
A student must attend all psychomotor skill demonstrations and satisfactorily return these demonstrations to receive a grade in the course. All Skills Lab requirements must be completed prior to clinical examinations. A return demonstration of each psychomotor skill in the Skills Lab is required prior to performing the skill in the clinical setting. Weekly attendance is required. Academic Dishonesty
Academic dishonesty is a serious offense, which includes but is not limited to the following: cheating, complicity, fabrication and falsification, forgery, and plagiarism. Cheating involves copying another student’s paper, exam, quiz, or use of technology devices to exchange information during class time and/or testing. It also involves the unauthorized use of notes, calculators, and other devices or study aids. In addition, it includes the unauthorized collaboration on academic work of any sort. Complicity, on the other hand, involves the attempt to assist another student to commit an act of academic dishonesty.
Fabrication and falsification, respectively, involve the invention or alteration of any information (data, results, sources, identity, etc.) in academic work. Another example of academic dishonesty is forgery, which involves the duplication of a signature in order to represent it as authentic. Lastly, plagiarism involves the failure to acknowledge sources (of ideas, facts, charges, illustrations, etc.) properly in academic work, thus falsely representing another’s ideas as one’s own.
Academic dishonesty is not tolerated in this class. If you are caught cheating in this class, you will receive a failing grade on the Assignment, Quiz or Exam in which you are caught cheating

No Show Withdrawal: If a student registered for the course before the start time of the first class period, but did not attend the first class session of a course that meets only once per week and failed to notify the instructor of his or her intentions to continue the class, the Registrar’s Office will remove the student from the course.
