Course Objectives

Suggested Methods of Assessment and Evaluation

All nursing courses required for the nursing program will be evaluated based on satisfactory completion of class, lab and clinical competencies. Students are required to achieve a satisfactory evaluation in the lab and clinical components of each nursing course. Numerical grades below 80% (C) in the nursing courses and/or unsatisfactory lab and/or clinical evaluation for the semester are considered unsatisfactory attainment of course competencies.

 

Written Evaluations

Two multiple choice question exams. Exam 1 is worth 20%, Exam 2 is worth 20%. A Midterm is worth 30% and Final is worth 30%.

*Medication Dosage Calculation Test – Achievement of 90% on math competency quiz is required.  If a student receives less than 90% they will be required to schedule two math tutoring sessions in the Tutoring Center.  A validation form of attendance will be required for each tutoring session. The Medication Dosage Calculation Test will be proctored during the 1st to 3rd week.  Students must achieve a 90% score on the medication dosage calculation test in order to progress in the nursing course. A second attempt will be permitted if needed. Those receiving < 90% will be provided a third and final opportunity to test.  Failure to achieve the 90% score after the 3rd test will result in a course grade of “F” for unsatisfactory attainment of course competencies. No Show Withdrawal: If a student registered for the course before the start time of the first-class period, but did not attend the first-class session of a course that meets only once per week and failed to notify the instructor of his or her intentions to continue the class, the Registrar’s Office will remove the student from the course.
